Developmental Milestones: 5 to 6 Years
Every child grows and develops in their own unique way and at their own pace.
Milestones are simply helpful guidelines, and it’s okay if your child reaches them a little earlier or later than others.

5-6 Years
Fine Motor:

Writing letters and beginning to form words

Drawing detailed pictures (person with many body parts, scenes)

Coloring within lines with good control

Cutting along lines and simple shapes accurately

Using a mature pencil grasp most of the time

Managing buttons, zippers, and some shoelaces
Gross Motor:

Running, jumping, and climbing with good coordination

Skipping smoothly

Hopping and balancing on one foot with control

Catching and throwing a ball with improved accuracy

Beginning organized sports or structured movement activities
Play & Social Skills:

Playing cooperatively and following rules in games

Taking turns and sharing with less support

Developing friendships and understanding teamwork

Showing increased empathy and awareness of others

Beginning to problem-solve conflicts with guidance
Sensory Processing:
