Milestones are simply helpful guidelines, and it’s okay if your child reaches them a little earlier or later than others.

4-5 Years
Fine Motor

Drawing recognizable pictures (person with body parts)

Copying shapes (circle, cross, square, sometimes triangle)

Beginning to write some letters (especially in their name)

Using scissors more accurately

Coloring within lines (with improving control)

Managing buttons, zippers, or simple fasteners
Gross Motor:

Running, jumping, and climbing with confidence

Hopping on one foot

Skipping or beginning to skip

Catching and throwing a ball more accurately
